DEMONSTRATOR FLOOD CONTROL ROOM
The Demonstrator Flood Control Room (DFCR) is a research platform in which the various products of the Flood Control 2015 programme have been integrated and where they are tested and demonstrated together. This strengthens the links between the various projects, accelerating and structuring the innovation process.
A DFCR was set up in the Deltares building in Delft in 2009. It is the location for work on concepts that integrate the various research products functionally and in terms of IT technology. An important component of this work is the development of an open architecture for flood control systems. Experiments are now being conducted with a number of systems and real-time data flows about meteorology, water levels and dike strength.
The current project comprises four main objectives: the ongoing development of the DFCR with the elaboration of an experimental application for the city of Rotterdam, the development of methods for using the DFCR as a practice facility, the ongoing development of concepts to improve information exchange and decision-making and the development of a programme for higher education.
Sub-projects:
- Research into the functional integration of FC2015 concepts
- Study of the application of FC2015 concepts in an urban environment (Rotterdam case)
- Study of methods for the use of the DFCR as a training and simulation environment
- Ongoing development of reference architecture
- Development of FC2015 programme for higher education
