NEWS

On June 24th, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Maria van der Hoeven, gave a keynote speech on innovation, and more specifically on the results of three years of public-private partnership for innovation in key areas for a thriving, sustainable Dutch society. And the results are good; many innovations have been realised and, perhaps more importantly, many active interdisciplinary networks have been formed. The current strategic innovation agendas will continue up to 2013, and new funding has been approved. Flood Control 2015 was named as an example of succesful innovation with high societal impact.

Van der Hoeven

"Floods can never be ruled out, no matter how strong or how high the dikes are constructed", Minister Van der Hoeven said. "Smart information systems, sensor-equipped dikes and fast decision making can help prevent human casualties. The systems and technology that make this possible are developed by the Flood Control programme"
