FLOOD CONTROL 2015 AND SILICON VALLEY TEAM UP

The Netherlands Consulate in San Francisco, in conjunction with Joint Venture Silicon Valley, brought together a group of 30 experts from a variety of fields from the Netherlands and the Bay Area to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors in mitigating the challenges and risks associated with sea level rise.
With its density of creative thinking and IT knowledge, combined with Dutch water expertise, the Bay Area could be a frontrunner in developing model solutions to be deployed across the globe. Flood Control 2015 innovates at the boundary of water safety and IT and is therefore interested in partnering with Silicon Valley expertise in creating succesful business propositions.
Company participants to the event included Flood Control 2015 members IBM and ARCADIS as well as Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco, NetApp and HansjeBrinker, in addition to organizations such as the Bay Area Conservation and Development Commission, the Delta Alliance, the Bay Area Council and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
The meeting was a preliminary step towards a larger conference on the Bay Area’s answers to sea level rise, which will take place in San Francisco in early 2012. A Dutch report of the meeting was published by Anke Smits.
